Invictus

Song: I was here by Beyoncé

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i41qWJ6QjPI

This song inspires me to do my best in everything I do. The song is about life in general. Being successful and looking back at your achievements, giving you confidence that you mean something. Also to do the best for you family and friends. And most importantly live life to the fullest with no regrets. Its about living to make a difference  so when you die you will be remembered for what you did.

Revenge Response : Hamlet

Revenge- the action of inflicting hurt or harm on someone for an injury or wrong suffered at their hands. In many cases you will instantly think of ways to get back in terms of revenge after someone has done wrong to you. Sometimes the situation will determine if it is necessary to give revenge. If there is a possible replacement that can be made for example if the situation was theft, revenge may make you feel better. In other cases where there is murder or hurt to your family or friends revenge will not help bring them back. Revenge may seem right but it will only lead to underlying guilt which you may not forget. At the end revenge may feel good but it wont make anything better. I think forgiveness is the best path. Sometimes you can forgive and forget but other times you may forgive but not forget. As the better person I would let karma be on my side and get back in one way or another.

Advice Letter to Yourself

After five years of experience in high school, I'll tell you that you may not realize a lot as a thirteen year old. First things first is style. You should know that coloured pants are not cool. Pink and purple are beautiful colours but please don't get them in pants. Also, leggings are supposed to fit nice and tight, don't be that girl wearing loose leggings. Just get your size! The group of friends you have will change. People will come and go. There will be a point in time where you had a best friend who you literally told everything to that you have stopped talking to. It will feel like you don't even know them anymore as you walk by like complete strangers. Its weird how things change. Trust nobody, don't open up to everyone. You will only be betrayed. Get involved as much as you can! Try out for sports, dance teams or take leadership. The more you're involved the better you high school experience will be. Over the next couple years you will see how things are but when you're in grade 12 you want to look back at a memorable high school experience. Don't have a bad day over little things, keep smiling and move on!

GATTACA Resonse

In what way does GATTACA represent the elements of a dystopian society?

The division between the genetically modified humans and the degenerates represents the element of dystopian society in GATTACA. The genetically modified humans are shown to be "perfect" and are given the jobs and education based on their genes. Whereas the degenerates are refused to be a part of specific jobs and are only given jobs that require less skills. They are left to feel less worthy as they have natural human flaws compared to the perfect genetically modified humans. The society's goal was to have all "perfect" humans leading to a perfect world but since there were naturally born humans still existing they failed to do so.

In what way might GATTACA be considered a representation of a utopian society?

Having many genetically modified humans born to be perfect can be considered to represent a utopian society in GATTACA because they're left to have very little or no flaws at all. The modified DNA leaves the humans to have the best qualities and skills. These perfect humans working and running the society leads to a minimum amount of conflict and therefore a perfect society.

Inquiry Reflection

Question: Why is there more control over what a female can/cannot wear?
I chose this question because of my interest in fashion. I thought about fashion and realized there is so much more control over what females wear. But why? After researching I came to conclude two main reasons. First, that its too dangerous for women to be dressed in a "revealing way" walking around. Second, thats its too distracting for males. Women are inspired by religion, celebrities and fashion styles but are told they are not "allowed" to wear certain clothes. The harassment by a male is accepted and as a solution women are continuously told how to dress rather than telling men to stop their actions. If I were to continue researching this question, I would take an opportunity to talk to someone who has put rules on female fashion. For example the school administrators because they have put restrictions on shorts.
